How does Zoom work?
Zoom is a free app that's easy to use on your computer or laptop. You might have heard about Zoom already through work or friends. It’s hugely popular for virtual meetings, lessons and even birthday gatherings. Think of it like you’re watching a YouTube video, but instead of kittens it’ll be your amazing presenter and classmates.
How do I install Zoom on my computer or laptop?
(Please start following these steps at least one hour before the start of the course.)
Go to https://zoom.us/download and click the blue “Download” button.
Follow your computer’s instructions to install the application.
How do I join the Zoom meeting room?
(Please start following these steps 15 minutes before the start of your Zoom session.)
- Get your headphones/earbuds and connect them to your computer. We strongly suggest that you use headphones or earbuds for the class to ensure you can hear everyone on the video call AND so that they can hear you. Where possible, do NOT use the built-in microphone/speakers of your computer.
- Click on the link to your Zoom meeting room. You'll find it in your reminder email sent 1 hour before the first session, or (if you have an online classroom) it will be on the Zoom link and information page in your classroom.
You'll be taken to your web browser. When prompted, click the “Open Zoom” button. - When prompted, click “Join with computer audio” to join the call.
IMPORTANT: When you're not actively talking, please mute yourself. If you're not muted the entire class will hear what’s going on in your household which can be disruptive.
