Annabel Smith

Annabel Smith is a Perth-based author with two published novels. Whisky Charlie Foxtrot was published by Fremantle Press in 2012. In the US, it was published in 2015 under the title Whiskey & Charlie where it sold in excess of 60,000 copies. Annabel’s debut novel, A New Map of the Universe, was published by UWA Publishing in 2005. It was chosen as the flagship novel to launch UWA Publishing’s New Writing Series and was shortlisted for the WA Premier’s Book Awards that same year.

She has also written an experimental speculative fiction novel called The Ark, which she released in 2013 as an interactive digital novel. For this, Annabel was selected to be an inaugural recipient of the Australia Council’s Creative Australia Fellowship for Emerging Artists.

Annabel’s short fiction and essays have been published in Southerly, Westerly, Kill Your Darlings and the Review of Australian Fiction. She has been writer-in-residence at Katherine Susannah Prichard Writers Centre and the Fellowship of Australian Writers (WA). Annabel has a PhD in Creative Writing and is a former member of the editorial board at Margaret River Press.
