Too funny for words?
Children love to laugh. You must know that (you used to be one). That’s why it’s really not surprising that the bestsellers lists are often jam-packed with humorous stories for kids. It’s been like this for years (trust us, we checked), because comedy is timeless and universal.
There is a problem though. You see, many authors – both emerging and established – lack the confidence to see their funny manuscripts through from conception to completion. What if nobody laughs at my ideas? What if my jokes fall flat? What if nobody understands that when I write in italics I’m thinking things out loud? You get the idea.
This course will help you find that confidence to write your own funny books – ones that kids, publishers and parents will gleefully gobble up. Because if you can laugh, you can write humour – it just takes a bit of practice.

About course creator Tim Harris
Tim Harris is an award-winning children’s author with several laugh-out-loud series for kids to his name, including Toffle Towers, Mr Bambuckle’s Remarkables and Exploding Endings. He was a primary school teacher of 15 years, which kind of makes perfect sense really. His stories are filled with quirky scenarios, loveable characters and plenty of imagination. And soon, yours will be too!

Q: Will this course make me funny?
A: There is no guarantee. But this course will explicitly analyse humour, with plenty of opportunity for you to develop your own ‘funny’ writing style and inject laughs in all the right places (so, kind of like the opposite of Botox).
Q: Can anyone do this course?
A: Yes. But it’s especially helpful for writers who are committed to planning, starting, completing or bettering their manuscripts.
Q: Will there be homework?
A: It’s not school, but each module will include at least one recommended writing exercise to help you hone your skills.
Q: Will I receive feedback?
A: Yes! At the end of the course, you’ll have the opportunity to submit an exercise and receive personalised feedback from Tim.
