What’s it like to learn with AWC?

Bernadette was fantastic. Her feedback was always constructive and provided insight into things I hadn't thought about or been aware of. She was very gentle with her criticism; it was actually guidance on how to do something better. The encouragement from the other participants and of course Bernadette was very reassuring.

I found the site easy to navigate and the structure of the course was great. I didn't have any technical issues which was great for me as I can be pretty backwards on the technical side.

I was amazed with myself that I completed the course and had the homework sections in on time. I am listed in the world's greatest procrastinators, but I knew that this was just what I needed at this point in my life. The class members were great; we've actually formed an outside group to continue with our writing journeys. I'm blown away by the encouragement the group gave me on tackling such a tough topic, domestic violence, and the encouraging feedback I received.

Everyone I have dealt with at the Australian Writers' Centre has been courteous and well informed. The courses are run in a very professional way and the content of the courses is top-notch.

Why did I put off doing this course for so long?

I feel that everything I needed to begin my writing was addressed. The course was thorough and easy to understand. Every step was explained perfectly.

Angela has been an excellent tutor and her feedback, I feel, has been invaluable. I felt encouraged and given tips on how to improve.

I enjoyed reading my classmates' assignments and can see that I was in a course with very talented people. There was definitely an environment of support and encouragement within our group.

At 55 years old, learning usually is a bit difficult but I felt that I had plenty of time to go over my assignments and each module was broken down into easy to understand bites.

It has assisted me to feel motivated and have a roadmap to achieve what I could only dream about for many years. Even my partner would say that from day one, I was engrossed in the course. I had a "this is what I really want to do " moment.

If you have a burning ambition to write the book that is bouncing around your head you need to contact AWC. The courses are set up for any age or experience and you don't have to sell a kidney to afford them. You feel supported and encouraged all the way.

I will be continuing to do more courses with you along the way as I practice the writing craft. I have come away from the creative writing course feeling enthusiastic and motivated. Hopefully I can celebrate a published novel with you all in the not too distant future.

I really enjoyed this course! I tried a few YouTube tutorials here and there but this translated the tech terms SO well. Instead of overwhelmed, I really absorbed it and am keen to learn more.

The presenter is great! Quirky and professional and friendly.

I enjoyed the diversity in length and delivery. The instructor. The lack of pressure but also the interactivity with having to submit a weekly assignment - this helped me really absorb and integrate the lesson.

I feel that this course adds a clarity and professionalism to my work as a freelance copywriter. I feel clear on what services I'll be offering, what I will charge, my limitations and my worth.

Mark Farrelly was fantastic. He was fair in his comments and gave much needed feedback in a positive manner. Bernadette was very down to earth. She didn't sugar coat things which was refreshing. Her content was valuable and easy to understand.

The course was easy to follow, engaging and motivating. I now have the initial skills to start looking into copywriting as a career.

I completed a previous course with AWC and enjoyed it. This one seemed like the next natural step to beginning my novel writing journey.

I enjoyed the automated emails every morning letting me know what the day's task was. I now am 13,000 words and a whole lot of planning ahead in my story!

The tutor was very knowledgeable, comments were helpful and guided us to work on certain aspects of our writing. I learnt a lot and thoroughly enjoyed the tasks and content.

I cannot believe how much information I learnt in this course. Module 5 was especially useful in giving a realistic guide to the future. Angela was very supportive and encouraging all the way through.

I enjoyed the use of excerpts from other novels that made what Valerie was saying so much more realistic.

By completing the course, it has proven to me that I can actually achieve what I have set out to do. The best thing is that I now know that I can achieve my lifelong goal of 50 years and become a full-time author.

This is a terrific course to brush up on the use of punctuation in your writing. Very accessible and a great confidence booster!

I enjoyed learning about writing SEO copy and the world of Google. This was so fascinating, and a big “wow, I didn’t know it worked like that” moment.

After just five weeks of learning about the art of copywriting, I am amazed at how confident and energised I feel. With so many wonderful tips and tricks now in my writing toolbox, I know I will be able to get started as a copywriter as soon as I say go!

I loved learning about the art of copywriting. The course was a perfect length and the assignments and weekly readings where achievable, even for me, a mother of 4 children under the age of 8.

Enrol and get started - it will change your life. Great content, flexible, easy to fit around family and work.

The structure and delivery were easy to follow and interesting. Bernadette is great to listen to, relatable and the content is rich with tips, practical and immediately useful.

I enjoyed doing the assignments, getting feedback and hearing all the feedback, which was useful. All the material (handouts). I feel I will always refer back to these for guidance.

I feel confident and able to see the path forward to making writing (eventually) my full-time job.

I wasn't really sure what copywriting was, I thought I would be out of my depth, but Bernadette was fantastic and so generous with her knowledge. Her feedback was honest and useful, given in such a manner where you didn't feel disheartened, just enthusiastic to try out any suggestions.

I enjoyed the insider insight to the copywriting business, the 7 steps to writing great copy - now I find I am judging all the copy I see. I even enjoy the junk emails I receive.

I enjoyed the course material, audios, and feedback on assignments, and comments by other students on each other's work...in fact I enjoyed it all.

I really liked the way Suzanne presented the feedback. She was very encouraging. I also liked that she pointed out where students were going wrong.

At first I felt shy about posting my work for the other students to read, as it had been a long time since I had written anything creative. But I was pleasantly surprised. I learned a lot reading the other students' work and hearing the critiques that Suzanne gave them. I also enjoyed reading other people's comments on my own assignments and on those of others.

The major learning for me was that writing a novel is a craft that one can learn, and that you don't have to be born with a special talent.

Doing the course is so much better than trying to learn the craft from a book. If you really want to write for children, then the course is a fun way to learn about the various techniques of good novel writing, as well as about things that may not be found in a book.

Natasha clearly steps you through Scrivener's key features. It's easy to follow and hopefully, through use, easy to remember!

Each module breaks down its parts. I think this will be useful for future reference as I start to use the program myself.

I now have a systematic way to organise my writing.

Nat was excellent. I have gained so much knowledge and tips for presenting to kids, tailored to different age groups. I enjoyed her energy, enthusiasm and expertise.

This course provided invaluable tips for presenting my book to kids at schools and other venues like booksellers. It gave me the understanding of how to plan and conduct events like book launches.

I used some of the book launch ideas for my first book launch. I also managed to tee up big sponsors for my first book launch event (Hyatt Hotel and Toyworld), and I wouldn't have even tried this had it not been for this course!

The AWC is essential for starting a picture book author career.

I enjoyed sharing my assignments, reading other students' work and workshopping with the other students.

It has given me the tools to start developing my writing in a more sophisticated way, to look more closely at story structure and how to create more interesting characters and scenes.
