What’s it like to learn with AWC?
Each year, thousands of students just like you achieve their writing goals through our courses and world-class presenters. Here they share how their new-found skills and confidence enriched their life.
After completing your Copywriting Essentials course, I saw this and knew I just had to do it. It just felt like the next natural step in my learning.
I enjoyed that it was self-paced which allowed me full control over how slow or fast I wanted to go. Dean was a fantastic teacher too, he kept it interesting, fun and of course full of valuable information.
I feel the confidence to go down the Real Estate Copywriting path and own it!
AWC courses are fantastic! The modules within the course are well thought out and, after completing two courses now, I find the teaching style to be informative and easy to follow.
I'd heard lots of good things about Scrivener from other writers, and they all recommended this course to get me started.
I like the way all the steps were repeated multiple times. Really helped everything sink in.
The one major learning was probably the session on creating your research folder in the program, and the fact that you can take images and webpages and save them all in one place. The fact that this process was so easy and will make a big difference to my research when writing was a major factor for me deciding to purchase the program.
I wanted to go deeper and further develop my knowledge and skills. I also wanted to learn about how to approach publishers, how to prepare a manuscript in detail, etc.
I found it all very informative, useful and relevant. It was hard work but l enjoyed some of the pressure. I loved learning about how to structure a story.
I think l have found my new 'thing'. It has given my life a different purpose.
Do it!! You will learn so much.
I needed motivation to just "do it." I am an ill-disciplined procrastinator. I need structure in order to get to the next step. The Creative Writing 30-day Bootcamp looked like it would break me out of my wishing and hoping.
Although I didn't stick faithfully to the guidelines, I found it easy enough to catch up. The easy days interspersed with the busy days was designed for people like me, I'm certain! But in the end, I got my 10,000 words ... plus some.
The AWC is a place where anyone can begin at their own level, or window-shop the courses and select the one they feel most ready for, or drawn to. Chances are, that's exactly the place to start, because in simply starting, you will soon understand that writing is not about what you know as much as it is about what you need to know.
I speak from personal experience, because I began with Reinvent Yourself, and moved on to Fiction Essentials: Structure and Fiction Essentials: Characters. Writing is more than a hobby - it's a school of learning. I have a lot of faith in AWC helping me, educating me and motivating me to get my novel written.
This was a tertiary level course which gave me heaps to think about and experiment with. The exercises were brilliant and can add to my understanding the more I do them.
I enjoyed the practical suggestions, and not being talked down to. The course notes were also very thorough.
Having completed a first draft, I can now go back to begin my second draft with knowledge rather than going in blind.
If you are serious about improving your writing, do more than one AWC course. They build expertise in you like a Sara Lee cake, layer upon layer upon layer.
I had completed Novel Writing Essentials with Pamela Freeman and got so much out of doing that course. After that I had continued to write my story and had nearly completed a first draft. Was keen to get some feedback and continue to improve.
Was so lucky to be put in such a great group, with people who really wanted to help each other.
Pamela was lovely and encouraging the whole way through but also gave genuine, constructive feedback with direct and specific tips on what to improve and how to go about it.
My favourite part of the course was reading everyone's feedback from Pamela, and also my course mates' feedback to each other.
It has given me confidence to keep going and motivation to keep improving.
Would have no hesitation in recommending any of the courses. I have done several and loved them all.
Thanks to Pamela and all of my classmates of September 2021 WYN. Have loved the experience and feel motivated to keep writing.
I've done many courses with AWC and I needed this course to focus on completing my novel. I thought the 6 months would be just the right amount of time without getting distracted.
The class was great, the feedback was fantastic and Bernadette was a great teacher. She was very thoughtful with her feedback and was very encouraging.
The class feedback was great. I really appreciated the interaction with the group and everyone was encouraging and offered suggestions if you were stuck with something.
It was done really well; I highly recommend how the course was set out and run.
Pamela was amazing. She was kind, responsive, motivating; it felt like she went above and beyond.
I enjoyed providing / getting feedback and engaging with fellow classmates.
The course made me realise that a novel is a poem in long form. You write, you rewrite, and each part must be perfectly connected to all other parts. Overall, it has motivated me to keep on writing, helping me to stay accountable to the writing process and to my goal. It's aided my understanding that the writing process is challenging and ongoing, and that a novel is achievable.
It's helped me to think about new and different ways to write about topics and how to analyse good writing. Cindy was very timely with feedback.
I would say that it's a great online course and easy to do at your own pace.
I have participated in a few courses from the Australian Writers' Centre and have really enjoyed them. I love writing and have the beginnings of short stories, novels and picture books. I would like to build on the skills and knowledge I have and to improve on the work I have started and maybe even to finish them.
Everything in this course was interesting and informative. Angela was very good. She provided feedback that was practical and positive and constructive.
I liked reading the work from the other students, I liked the way each module presented a different aspect of constructing a novel, the last assignment to include the four different colours and I liked the encouragement to just keep writing and rewriting until the novel is done.
Apart from the content of the course, I have been inspired to keep writing. I have always had doubts about my ideas and writing or if I could ever finish anything but I am going to persevere and see where it may take me. It doesn't matter so much if nothing comes of it; I just want to enjoy writing and to finish something.
Really tight and relevant, self-paced and accessible course. Engaging presenter who knew her stuff.
It will make my website development project much more efficient.
It was logical, interesting and well presented. The interviews were apt and added value to the talks.
It has given me the courage to proceed and enrol in Creative Writing Stage 1.
I have three books forthcoming and want to establish an online presence, including an author website.
The course was so practical, detailed and useful. Michelle did a fabulous job, so much so that I hope to engage her to build my website.
It has given me the guidance I need to put together a brief for a really effective author website. It has also galvanised my thinking around the effort I will need to put in to build income around my writing.
High quality, professionally run courses on specific topics. If there is an area of weakness in your writing skillset, the AWC can probably help.
The quality and detail of the course work was wonderful. It felt so targeted and relevant to what I was trying to achieve.
Bernadette was a generous and experienced tutor. I appreciated all the feedback and support I received from her.
I enjoyed sharing the journey with others. The ongoing links to people and knowledge. The recorded course work and handouts.
It's got me writing and believing that I can actually finish my novel and it might be half good!
If you're serious, or even if you just want to have some fun, I highly recommend AWC. The tutors are industry professionals who know what they are talking about and the course work is relevant and detailed. It's also a wonderful way to make connections that will outlast the course.
I love funny stories and wanted to learn how to write like that.
The content was engaging and interesting. It was just really good content; easy to understand.
I now feel confident that I can try writing funny stories with all the tips in this course from a highly successful children's author.
The author interviews were really interesting and encouraging. I'm now much more confident about the process of writing romance.
Do it. You will learn a lot. The course is very practical and encouraging. Plenty to sink your pen into (so to speak!)
I had concerns it would be far too technical; it wasn't. The course and trainer were fantastic. I enjoyed the simplicity of explanations
I'd say it's worth every cent.
I realised I can now use these skills for marketing and promoting my own business as an artist and help other people. It has given me more confidence.
The tutor is very approachable, speaks well and he is very knowledgeable. Excellent feedback.
This course has taught me a whole new set of writing skills that I can apply to a range of media. It was a well-designed course, the videos and handouts were succinct and easy to understand. Now I know some inside secrets! I always thought copywriting and marketing were for corporate people, but now I know I can do it, there's no stopping me. This course has given me confidence to move forward.
The headline formulas were amazing! I have landed my first small copywriting job as a result of this course.
Great courses, wide range of specialties.
What a pleasure this course has been!! So thankful for such a wonderfully talented, diverse and supportive group of writers, and of course, Pamela's invaluable mentorship.
Pamela was brilliant. So generous with her time and feedback, she was always insightful and considered. I found her feedback invaluable. She gave me the encouragement I needed to keep pushing through to meet my goals. She helped me to learn a lot about my writing, both strengths and weaknesses. Could not have been happier with a tutor.
I really lucked out with a great diverse group of people in this course. On the whole, really helpful and supportive. The deadlines were good for me - made me go the extra mile and produce what I probably wouldn't have done in the timeframe.
I am changing my working life next year to free up more writing time. I want to get this current novel in print and commence, if not complete, my next manuscript in 2023.
Just do it! There are courses for all kinds of writers and you can do them at your own pace. Great tutors and a fabulous way to connect with other writers. I have already recommended AWC to a number of people.
Just a sincere thank you for helping me get to where I want to be.
