What’s it like to learn with AWC?

I found the lessons inspirational and have enjoyed listening to them many times. It helped me to develop the idea for my picture book, which grew from an exercise I started in the first Writing Picture Books course. So it was hugely practical and fun.

I'm getting ready to pitch my book to agents and I wanted to get an understanding of how the publishing process works.

I enjoyed learning about the distribution process, and particularly the insights around how to approach agents. I now have an understanding of how the publishing process works, and I feel confident in taking the next step to work on my query letter and pitch to agents.

This is an excellent course for any first-time writer who has written their debut novel and is serious about getting published.

The workflow of the modules took an understandable approach to how to plan scenes before writing them and then how to best write scenes.

I now feel ready to look closely at planning my novel scenes and how to make certain I've got all the necessary elements for my story.

Definitely do it. The courses are such great value and really improved my skill set and understanding of fiction writing.

The tutor was amazing. Her feedback was positive and constructive. Jennifer explained all the concepts well and her explanations were easy to follow.

At first, I was a little scared about posting my writing assignment each week in the group as I thought it would be done individually and not for everyone else to see. But now that I have completed the course, I can see how the structure has a two-fold benefit. A, it gives you more confidence and B, you get to see what others have written and the feedback they receive allows you to learn more about writing.

I feel like I have the basics to get started on writing a novel as before I had no idea. I have also gained confidence in my ability and understand that the more you write and read the better writer you will become. I also enjoyed reading the other students' stories and gained an understanding that we are all different.

I have a passion for writing and with two young children I thought children's picture books was a great place to start.

Suzanne was wonderful, her feedback was very useful and helped refine my writing. Listening to other people's feedback was also a great resource.

I found it so helpful. I've studied writing in a professional context and creative non-fiction before as well as studying literature a lot. This was a far more helpful course in teaching the practical skills and in a very positive, supportive way.

I was entirely unfamiliar with UX, but was in the process of building a website for my business. I wanted to learn how to make my website a great experience for my readers / visitors.

Because I had never seen the term 'UX Writing' before, I was concerned that I might be out of place in the course or not gain / understand much. However, I had a fabulous day and learned a great deal from Carli and the cohort, many of whom were content designers from top firms on that particular day. Lucky me!

Carli was absolutely superb in level of knowledge and also facilitating a live online classroom. Excellent experience.

I found the examples of user journeys through different sites very helpful, and I also especially liked the exercises on tone of voice and the various dimensions of tone of voice. I learned completely new information which I will implement in the design of my two websites straight away.

I have taken many courses though AWC. You will not find greater value for time, money, or quality of instruction than these courses. They consistently exceed expectations in every subject. Thank you, AWC.

I really enjoyed Bernadette's zingy and infectious energy throughout the course. There were loads of interesting aspects of copywriting that I enjoyed learning about, especially touching on the psychology around peoples' motives behind buying choices. And I really enjoyed the assignments.

It's given me so much more direction and structure - how to convey ideas in a way that really benefit the reader, clarifying features and benefits, utilising the formulas to create flow, and just letting the words speak. It has helped me feel confident and satisfied when writing for my own business, and that's exactly what I was looking for.

I was slightly worried that it might be hard and that I would find the assignments too much. I also worried that I wouldn't learn anything practical that I could put into action in my role. Both totally unjustified concerns! :)

What spurred me to try the course was that I was stuck with how to progress from the ten or so thousand words I had written.

Jenny was fantastic. I gained a lot from her feedback - in fact I think it was invaluable! I thought her style of how she gave the feedback was really good too - e.g very positive, friendly and motivating. Even when giving feedback about things that needed work, Jenny said it in a motivating and uplifting way. Really good for new writers (all writers?!) I think!

I think this course has made my writing journey more of a reality because I can see the path laid out more clearly. I now have a more solid understanding of what I actually need to do to get those words on the page.

I'd recommend this course for sure. I'd say that you will finish with an actual toolkit to use to finish your manuscript. And a community to support you.

I had some ideas for short stories and novellas but had no idea about character creation and development. I wanted to learn how to create real, believable characters to give stories punch and leave the future readers impacted in some way.

I thought there was an incredible amount of detail in the course to fully equip me to write great characters and also plot. I didn't know exactly what to expect, but I now see this course as an arsenal in my toolkit!

It is structured and practical. There were a lot of really helpful examples that started to get my brain ticking over by just listening to them. Now I know where and how to start collating and developing my story ideas. This course has helped me capture the overwhelm into a structure I can now use going forward.

I wished to use Scrivener for my first attempt at writing a novel. I was sick of little, yellow, sticky notelets everywhere, but I'd heard Scrivener was difficult to get your head around.

Natasha's clear direct explanations, which I could stop and rewind when necessary, were fantastic. I realised that I could in fact do this and it would only take a little practise and familiarity with the program.

As a messy writer, I have mess everywhere trying to remind myself of important facts, ideas etc. I now have it all in one place. I use the Notes section in the Inspector all the time when fresh ideas hit me for a particular scene. As a kid lit writer, the discovery of Linguistic Focus in module 5 was very exciting.

Just do it. If you are serious about improving your writing, jump in to your first course. You will be amazed at what you didn't know.

I really enjoyed Lesley's delivery of the course and her obvious passion for the subject. It is infectious!

Being shown lots of real-life examples in books that have actually been published was extremely helpful to me.

I now have a lot more confidence to start writing stories for this age group with the thought that they might get published one day.

It's totally worth it.

I have been using Scrivener for a few years now and, as I taught myself how to use it, I know it is capable of much more than I have been able to work out for myself.

This course is great and I found Natasha to be a wonderful presenter, easy to listen to and most importantly covering the most useful parts of the program when we are starting out. I have bits of research all over my computer, on USBs and in real binder files and I am really excited now to bring all this information into one place and no longer be scratching around like a mad woman wasting precious time looking for it!

Upon completing this course, I see how Scrivener can help me with my writing and I now feel it is possible I will get my book over the line!

I have completed a few courses with AWC and I love them! The content and tutors are great and I love the weekly podcasts which help me to understand there are many ways to approach your writing. Learning tips and gaining inspiration from how others work gives you great ideas of how to find the right way for you!

LA Larkin was very warm and open to all questions. She was clear in the explanations, giving multiple examples and encouraging the students.

We learned a lot and the environment created was very supportive and relaxed. I understand the process of writing a crime thriller much more now.
